Not to say that you have a safety window, but there is some element of safety invovled within the first 4 weeks, while the egg is still forming into the zygote that will become the fetus and eventually the baby. As long as she has stopped she should be fine. Major development usually doesn't begin to occur until about the 6th week of pregnancy. Still it would be best to talk to a doctor and confirm a date on conception if you can, and of course to remain clean and sober for the next nine months. (well actually the next 18 years) Good Luck!

As long as she has stopped using cocaine and does not use it anymore all thing should be well. But she does need to be honest with her dr. and let him know that she did use before she found out she was pregnant so that he can keep a eye on the pregnancy since prior drug use has been linked to miscarriages.

Good luck to your friend and best wishes

during the first trimester of pregnancy, the fetus is rapidly developing, is fragile, and highly susceptible to damage. it's a good thing your g/f has stopped using and drinking. make sure she doesn't use anymore substances for the duration of her pregnancy. we really do not know how much alcohol it takes to cause fetal alcohol syndrome or fetal alcohol spectrum disorder...it's really hard to say what kind of damage there will be...the baby can look perfectly normal, but might have learning and/or developmental delays, and/or learning and behavioral difficulties later on...talk to the ob-gyn doctor and see what he/she has to say. maybe they can do some fetal testing via amniotic fluid.
i have an adopted son who was born addicted to cocaine and alcohol. he was literally "flat" when he was born, and reeked of alcohol. the withdrawls were so awful. he had no sucking reflex, and had to be forced-fed. he is 21 now. his life has been a constant uphill struggle. it was nightmare raising this kid alone...along with 2 biological kids. his behaviors were so violent and bizarre, that he had to start psychotropic meds at age 4. very rare for a child that young.
please spread the word to anyone you know, about drinking during pregnancy...fetal alcohol spectum disorder is hugely on the rise among teens and young adults. it is 100% preventable!!
i sincerely wish the best for you and your baby.

To ensure complete safety of the baby she should stop and not touch any drugs through out the pregnancy and after.hopefully she would have kicked the bad habbits after 9months and breastfeeding. The baby has a good chance of being healthy and well aslong as she stays of the drugs.see a DR. to know for sure, wether she she is prego or not,she should consider going to rehap or see someone to help her with her drug problems.Good luck.XX

I spent 10 days in Mexico partying my butt off, only to come home and 1 week later, find out I was pregnant.

The baby was 100% fine (9 out of 10 on her Apgar) and now, at 9, is above average in school and 5 feet tall. Not deformed, not dumb, not growth stunted.

Don't worry about it, just tell her no more drugs while she's pregnant!!!

I was dranking and smoking pot a week before I found out I was pregnant that was about 6 weeks into it. My daughter could not be anybetter. Just stop and don't do anything else until you are sure your not or the baby delivers and if you are still wondered ask the doctor.

She should stop using regardless. If she is pregnant, it could cause some problems later on in the babies life, but to say that the baby will be seriously harmed is just incorrect. If she is pregnant, she needs to see a doc asap and tell him that she used before she knew. The doctor needs to know and isn't going to call the cops on her or anything. Good luck and I hope it is just a scare. If it is...take it as a lesson learned and stop using and be more careful please.

i mean if she didn't know she was pregnant you can't really blame her you know. but n-e-ways she still has a chance to have a healthy baby she needs to stop and don't do anymore drug through her whole pregnancy and she needs to STOP today!

I knew someone who was a meth addict up until 2 or 3 months along and her baby is fine (as soon as she found out she was pregnant she cleaned up and got her life straight). Most likely the baby will be ok...just don't do any more drugs or alcohol.

The chance of it having harmed the fetus although small is still there, she needs to see the doctor immediately to discuss the chances of having harmed the fetus, and treatments to deal with any addiction to the substance so that the withdrawal symptoms do not harm the fetus.
