I was doing a study on people who don't wash their hands when they go to the bathroom...
09 of 10 Phillipinos wash their hands and flush toilet twice
09 of 10 Hispanics wash their hands "before" & "after"
03 of 10 Asians wash their hands and the rest take a wet paper into the bathrooms, those who took a paper didn't wash their hands.
3 of 10 White people didn't wash their hands at all, some of them didn't even use sit covers and some of them didn't even flush after them
Is it just me or why do you think americans are less careless of their health and putting other people at risk!?

I meant careless not the less parts, I am an american (white) and I am not being "bias" but that's the results I got when I sleep in the ladies bathroom, they have a couch in there and at the same time I observed the people that I work with.

After observing this I realized that I have to be careful where I go to eat. I will encourage you to make the same observations, and you'll know I am right. Peace

I totally agree with you. We really need to change our health and how we take care of ourselves as Americans.

I don't know what country you live in but FYI every one of those cultures that you listed live in America. America is not just run by Caucasians, we are the melting pot of the world. Any and every culture is here.

To make a true study of Americans you'd need to poll people that live in America... if you were just going by race (which it seems like you did) your "study" would be inaccurate.

Now me, for instance, I am Cuban, Spanish & Italian, but I look white. I wash my hands after I go to the bathroom, I flush the toilet everytime, and the paper towel that I use to dry my hands off with I also use to turn off the faucet and open the door.

I don't know how you would have classified me in your study but it seems to me that you are not so knowlegable on Caucasians or Americans if you consider them to be the same thing. Caucasians (or white people as you said)can be anywhere, Canada, Italy, Spain, France, and the list goes on. "White" is only the color of a person's skin and has absolutely nothing to so with where they live. So study Anthropology and your globe than do another study that will be correct this time.

Carelessness comes from the lack of thought. If you pay something no mind you more than likely will not do it.

I find your research interesting. You must have spent a lot of time in restrooms. Hmmmmm. But you have to know that taking a small sampling of something and then using a percentage to suggest that it is universal is not helpful.

I do believe however that Americans in general have become so accustom to the belief that we are not threatened by these issues because of government regulations or because of our health care system. So some, not all, find the threat to not be significant.

Of course there are always just plain lazy people.

First of all not all Americans are white, in fact in another 20 to 30 years we will be the minority, i don't believe 9 out of 10 phillipinos wash there hands, that country is nasty, i wash my hands everytime i go to the bathroom, so stop judging people by "stats"

Penn&Teller did a great piece on this a while back in their "Bullshit" series. They did swabs of toilets and people's butts. The swabs were sent to labs for testing. It turns out that toilet seats are fairly inhospitable to germs and the test came back clean. The people's butts also came back clean.

Another study showed that urine is sterile. There are some chemicals in there that the body is getting rid of, obviously. However, there were no germs in it. And those chemicals were, obviously fairly mild since they were in our bodies.

Therefore, the only real need to wipe hands is after deficating. Our intestines do harbor some germs we don't want to spread around. However, people are generally over cleanly, even Americans.

I aviod public restrooms at all costs and if I have to I cover the seat, wash my hands afterwards and carry hand sanitizer to use after I exit the rest room. Call me a germaphobe if you like but if you knew what grows in those places you would too.
I can't see how anyone can think that their hands are clean after using a public restroom even if you wash them, you still have to touch the faucet handle, paper towel dispenser, or air dryer button and door handle. yuck! (shiver)

Maybe you just studied the wrong people. You need more than 10 people for an accurate account. And it depends what city you are in and the gender and age. Do it again with more detail and see what findings you come up with.

What the hell? Your study is irrelavent. You have no good facts to back it up. You can't make a assumption based off one nights observance of 40 people. Furthermore, what the hell where you doing sleeping in a bathroom?

Cleo, don't generalize. I understand that you did a study......give your information. Who, what, when, where, and how did you obtain it????

Don't make it sound 'official' without providing ALL of your research data.

Because from where I'm sitting in THIS part of America, it seems like some examiner bias going on.

less careless is a good thing. Careless is bad but being less careless is good. How careless of you to make such a statement though..you obviously do not know what you are talking about.

I have noticed that a lot of people don't wash their hands. That's disgusting.
It starts in the home. No one teaches them to do it.
