Republicans are conservative, or old fashioned. God Bless America, abortion is murder, drugs should be illegal, etc. They are big believers in having a strong military. They wish to have lower taxes and the government is limited in its power.
Democrats are progressives. Abortion is okay, separation of church and state, let homosexuals get married. They want the military to be small, they want more funding for welfare programs, and they want the government to have more influence, mostly by the wealthy paying high taxes.
Keep in mind this is a simple diagram. Not all people on each side agree 100%.

you acquire it bass ackwards. Democrats care approximately; a million) Getting elected and re-elected. this is their ulterior reason. they're going to do something, say something, promise something to realize that purpose 2) Redistributing the "pie". they do no longer provide a rabid rat's rump if the "pie" turns into smaller mutually as they do this. 3) Making further and added people further and added based on the government. The longer the extra desirable. 4) increasing the dimensions of the government paperwork 5) "importing" extra voters by skill of granting citizenship to 11 -thirteen million unlawful extraterrestrial beings, ninety% of whom will vote for the Dems.. They ran up a minimum of 80% of the $17 Trillion debt which will shop on transforming into. So I mistrust the Dems a minimum of 80% extra desirable than I mistrust the GOP. The Republicans are making a futile attempt to end the nonsense and fix some potential to this u . s .. the rich ones discover the money for and don't care approximately that from now on. they % their childrens to inherit a solid u . s ., crammed with opportunities. rather, those childrens could have an "probability" to pay a debt which will in all probability be north of $50 Trillion (no longer counting the activity) This u . s . would be deader than Kelsey's Nu+$ in 40 years

Greetings!
In a nutshell....Nothing!
Because of the two party system, you will see periods of history which were democrat or republican controlled.
Thus like you see now, there is no democracy. If President Bush for example was elected with 30 plus percent of the vote what exactly are the other 70 percent of the country supposed to do?
If the Democrats were in power, then the story would be and has been the same.
Say what you want about Clinton, but he was as close to bi-partisan than anyone in history.
Now suppose the power is split? Well you still lose because then it is just a stalemate and nothing gets done.
Only if the country goes to Parliamentary Representation will people have a choice and have a group who's only interest is like the present parties serve that party.
The present parties would like you to believe that they serve the whole country.
If that were true, would we be in Iraq today? No.
So in a nutshell Good Luck

If you know what right and left is then I'll just summarize this
Republicans are just 1 mm more right than democrats. Which means in a nutshell you guys in US don't have much of a choice.. Either right or right.
Oh and by the way, where I live, it's parliamentary representation and it's not even better...
The best thing is proportional voting.. Representation whether it's parliamentary or electoral college is a fraud.

Not much but one could hope change in congressional leadership will produce better credit cards laws where terms can be changed, a patient bill of rights not HMO will get passed. The tax on beer not millioares will get lowered.

Republicans resort to name calling to defend their ideas (see the first answer). Democrats like to have solid reasons for their beliefs.
