My boyfriend and I are in a financial rut, but we have never really had money to save or to spend. It doens't keep us up at night, I mean we have a roof over our heads and food to eat. One of my closest friends has never known money stress. She was able to live with her parents until she got married, and has always made really good money, so she's been able to save a lot.

I just don't know how to explain it to her so she does not feel sorry for me.

Sounds like she is worried you are not as OK as you say. She can only understand what she has lived. Try not to discuss money with her as it seems like a point of frustration like politics is for some folks. She has had a different financial life and just can't see why a friend of hers is struggling when you are probably on par with her in many other ways. Try to do things together that settle on your similarities and keep money out of the scope of conversation whenever possible. Good Luck!
