with the weather getting colder we have a problem here with gnats there is no food left out and the trash is taken out every night any suggestions on how to get rid of them they are so disgusting please help me out here people

Not alot can be done about those pest, we have them in the summer.

Yes, gnats and flies seek the warmer air of the insides of houses and stores. You bring gnats or fruit flies home from the store in the fruit you buy. Every time you open the door, it allows flies a quick means of entry. As long as there is food in the house that is accessible they will live for a while in your house. Fly paper or putting all food in the fridge will help eliminate flies.

Usually fruit will attract them but you say that no food is left out. I would go to a janitorial/industrial store and purchase an insecticide for flying insects. Purchase the sprayer too and spray the entire house and the outside perimeter.

Hide some moth balls around the house, if you don't like the smell of moth balls, dilute 1-part water and 1-part peppermint extract in a spray bottle and spray around your house.
