Why do you need a difinition (sic)? If you are a student, then the first answer will help. If you actually want to know: it is by being genuinely interested in the other person, and to forget about yourself.

Communication is the process of sharing information. In a simplistic form information is sent from a sender or encoder to a receiver or decoder. In a more complex form feedback links a sender to a receiver. This requires a symbolic activity, sometimes via a language. Communication is based on the idea of respect, promises, and the want for social improvement.

Sorry to tell you there is no definative definition of communication. I studied communication at university and the definition of communication is a source of constant argument among academics. Researchers generally tend to try and express their own definitions of communication using models. A communication model is basically a part graphical part textual representation of what communication is or how it works. This website shows and explains most of the major communication models http://www.shkaminski.com/Classes/Handouts/Communication%20Models.htm I hope it's of some help to you
