Old wives tale. My baby's heartbeat was different almost every time... at 130, then 160, then 155, then 140. I thought I was gonna have a girl (didn't find out sex) but we ended up having a boy! :)

It is an old wives tale. Both of my babies (my son and current pregnancy) are boys and both had really fast heartbeats. So no it doesn't always work. My OB also told me that anywhere between 120 and 170 are normal for both sexes.

Heartbeat doesn't have anything to do with the sex of the baby. Each of my children's varied when I was pregnant. All three turned out to be boys! I think it has more to do with weather they are asleep, awake, moving or quiet, etc. I also know age in weeks has something to do with it to. It is normal and healthy for a baby's heart rate to vary. Within normal limits of course!

My baby's heartbeat always stayed low and I had a boy. It could be low and be a girl if she was sleeping at the time.

In two of my pregnancies, that myth was true....however, with my current one...it's been a bit sketchy! We are having a girl (POSITIVELY) and her heart rate has been anywhere from 130-150. You will probably have an ultrasound in about 4-6 weeks....That's the only way to really know!
GOOD LUCK!

It is an old wives tale. Wait until your 18 week scan and get them to have a look if you really want to know.
