It is not your eyelashes. We all have a small worm that lives at the base of your lashes.
Feel free to consider this an “ewww” moment, but (believe or not) most of us have squiggly, microscopic worm-like mites living in the roots of our eyelashes.
More technically known as demodex folliculorum or demodicids, these mites may also live in skin pores and hair follicles.
More facts about demodicids:
Demodicids have in the past been considered harmless, unless you find large accumulations in a single follicle—in which case, irritation may occur in a condition known as Demodicosis.
But some scientific studies suggest these critters may not be all that harmless.
Certain types of these mites could be an underlying factor in development of gland-related eye diseases involving abnormalities in tear production. Why? Because the mites may eat glandular cells responsible for tear production.
Demodex blepharitis results from excessive irritation and inflammation caused by these mites. Eyelashes might even fall out.
Ready for another “ewww” moment? Demodicids basically manage to survive by eating dead skin and oily secretions. And, yes, they do have claws and a mouth.
As many as 25 demodicids have been found accumulated in a single human eyelash root.
Demodicids are no longer than about .4 mm.

Well actually:
An eyelash or simply lash is one of the hairs that grow at the edge of the eyelid. Eyelashes protect the eye from debris and perform some of the same function as whiskers do on a cat or a mouse in the sense that they are sensitive to being touched, thus providing a warning that an object (such as an insect) is near the eye (which is then closed reflexively). So someone told you wrong, that's okay I have heard others say the the same thing, your body does have tiny bugs deep in the skin though.

there are bugs that LIVE in our eyelashes, but our eyelashes aren't made out of them. lol.
