Penne is good with thicker sauces because sauce will stick on the surface.
Shells will be better with more "running" sauces becuase sauce will fill the shell.

Personally for me it depends on what it is going to be used in... for alfredo sauce I like penne pasta because it holds the sauce better but for macaroni and cheese I like the shells, I like how the cheese clings to the inside of the pasta.

Penne.... because my 12 year old son has this thing about shell shaped pasta he won't it eat so we never buy it! LOL

Penne-- they both taste the same, but penne is easier to grab hold of with your fork.

penne holds thinner sauces better then shells. However, for thicker sauces, shells is better.
