use the firefox support to help you set it up as default if enough info wasn't given above. Also, some websites need IE (it happens and it sucks) luckily some guys have made add-ons, be sure to get open in IE tab for your firefox, it beats hassling with actually opening up IE.

I don't know about uninstalling IE, although you could try simply deleting the whole program from your hard drive, I guess.

As far as using FireFox - I'm running an iBook and every time I run the FF application, it prompts me to ask if I want to use it as my default browser. Don't know if that's the same on a Windows PC, though...

Sorry, you can't uninstall Internet Explorer as it is integrated into Windows. This is why it is so susceptible to viruses. Best thing to do is just not use it. If however, you want to secure it, one way is a simple program called DropMyRights. You create a special shortcut with it so that when double click that shortcut, IE will load in a restricted mode without administrator priviliges. This will stop any viruses you encounter writing files to the sensitive system areas of your computer. Check it out here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms972827.aspx

IE is essentially windows explorer. You can't get rid of it without crippling the system. Use FF as your default pbrowser and all will be well. Certain apps like Office and a few others require IE to be installed for them to work even though they don't use IE to do anything with there main function. Even still they will not install ro work with no IE.
