FIFA is the governing body of football (soccer) worldwide. Some think this is good and others bad. Just look at some of the other answers. But in a nutshell, they govern soccer, modify rules if and when needed, have several charities to build soccer in the world, put on several tournaments, not just the World Cup, are trying to banish racism in the world of soccer and numerous other activities.
