I took dance (tap, jazz, ballet and competition )as a child from when I was about 4 till I was 10...my mother made me quit because it became too expensive and also threw away all my things..shoes, costumes, etc. I really wish I still had them just for the memories, and something to show my kids later on in life. I am def too old to get back into dance but was considering buying dance shoes, just to have as keepsakes since I dont have my original shoes, and maybe be an inspiration for my kids when I have them. Anyone think this is stupid?

No, this is not stupid. In fact, I'd say buy shoes that fir you and take a dance class and wear them, so that they are actually "real". You may be too old to become a professional dancer, but this may become a wonderful hobby and a great workout.

No, if you have a hobby or a good memory your mother shouldn't have gone extreme and threw away your stuff. I can understand making you quit but throwing away your shoes and costumes.....Was she trying to make you forget or her? I think you should learn from your mother and let your kids do what they enjoy too. Go buy the shoes if it helps.

No it's not stupid and I don't know how old you are, but you could still dance if you want. They have a group here of older women who tap (the purple hat ladies!) something similar happened to me, but I'm right back at it. It takes time to re-condition your body especially since you are using muscles that you have 'let go". But you can do it! Go for it!

Not stupid in the least. In fact, buy those shoes and take and adult dance classes! I take ballet classes and I'm 56 years old.....you are NEVER too old. BTW I have danced in several local ballet productions (Nutcracker, Giselle etc.) here in the Houston Tx. area.

No it's not stupid. And you're never too old to go to dance class. They do offer it to adults as well as children. I have an adult friend who is in dance class and goes to recitals just like her daughters.

no, not stupid.
sad that you lost them, even if you don't use them, the memories are who you were/are.
i used to figure skate & speed skate, still have my figure skates, but boy do i wish i had some of my old outfits, and my speed skates.
gave them away on a whim....stupid me.
go buy new ones, and be nice to you. when you are gone, your possessions will be special to your children because they were special to you.

it is not stupid, but you don't have to buy the shoes, just talk with your kids about your own experience and they may want to live their own. don't try to live again through them what you couldn't let them find out what they want.

I like it. If it makes you happy, why not?
And btw you're not too old for dance. You can always take ballroom dance lessons (waltz, swing, rumba, etc.)
