All that effort for one day. Theres so much fakeness about it all. Its far too commercial. I've never known such tackyness.

To venom,
For your information I'm in England, where it is being americanised, hence the fakeness/tackyness. The true meaning is about some religious garbage, which I don't believe in

To those responses that have stated that Xmas is about love, family, etc, you have just proved my statement about the fakeness. You should be showing love to those that you love and respect all year round, not waiting until Xmas. Its so hypocritical.

Listen to The Grinch soundtrack: "This Christmas is Going to the Dogs"... hilarious song for Christmas-loathing folks
I like Christmas for all the reasons you put, minus the commercial part. But I don't just like the one day, my family has always stretched it out for a month. My husband hates that (he's a Chrismtas-hater, too), but it kind of makes it more worth it. I kinda like that there's a small time at the end of the year when even relatively mean people can be nice, where people go out of their way to give to the Salvation Army or buy Christmas toys for poor kids or work in soup kitchens. All those things don't happen 11 months out of the year. I'd rather they happened all the time, but hey, I'll take what I can get.
I also have two small kids, and even my husband looks forward to Christmas now that they're here and a little older. Seeing a little kid really get into everything "Christmas" is an awesome thing, and the look in their eyes when they see a lighted Christmas tree and wrapped presents make it worth all the effort.

I used to despise Christmas because I worked in a Wal-Mart type department store when I first started college. The store was always packed and the customers were just plain rude and they destroyed the store looking for things. We had to stay open later for the Christmas season and I spent hours putting merchandise away that customers decided to drop wherever they felt like. Plus our muzak system blared horrible Christmas songs all day long. The four years I worked there, I hated Christmas and everything it stood for. But now I don't work there anymore so Christmas is okay again! ;-)

Find the true meaning of christmas. Then you wouldn't hate it so much. Remember, Its not about the material things. After all ppl around the globe celebrate christmas different. Its onlt too commercial in North America. So, why don't you try Christmas in another region? That may help improve your perspective on christmas. After all, it is all about LOVE :)

Why put any effort into it? I don't. Sure I will decorate a little and buy a few gifts, but I just go with the flow. As for fakeness and tackiness, to quote Nelson Muntz, "some of us prefer illusion to despair".

I love Christmas. Yeah, maybe it has become a little over commercialized, but it's still a time of togetherness for families and friends. You can't beat that.

Oh, no. I love Christmas. I want to put my nutcracker collection out on the mantle right now, but I know it's way too early. I will contain my excitement until November 25th!
