Every woman should get a pap smear every year starting either at age 18, or when they first become sexually active...whichever comes first.

I've been getting pap smears since I was fourteen or fifteen. You should have them done yearly to check for abnormal cells. Abnormal cells can be an indication of cervial cancer which knows no age and can be caused/excellerated if you have an STD. This is especially important if you are currently sexually active. You can also request that an HPV test is done at the same time as many women have no symptoms of this disease. Be your own best advocate at the doctor. If you don't understand why something is being done or don't feel confortable speak up! You also have the right to bring along a trusted friend or family member or request that a female staff member be in the room at the time.

Actually a pap smear is a good idea for any post-pubescent female. You should have them annually; having an abortion has nothing to do with this, however your gynecologist may understand that to mean that you are sexually active. In that case, all the more reason to have the test to rule out any STI's. Don't wait until you're 25!:)

Actually, Females are suppose to receive pap smears when they first start their period or become sexually active, which ever comes first. They are just routine check ups to ensure that there is nothing wrong with you (i.e. cervical cancer). Because you have had abortions, you are at a higher risk of getting infections, prenatal problems, etc. So, I wouldn't worry about getting them, only the outcome!
You also recieve these if you take birth control (any forms)!

I had my first smear at 19, they are usually done once you become sexually active, but sometimes doctors advise them for other reasons, they aren't pleasant but are an excellent way of finding out whether you have any infections etc. Best to have them so that you know that you've not got any issues down there! Good luck!

No this is not why they have contacted you. You should keep up with your smears once you become sexualy active.
This sh*t is life or death. If you have a smear, they find grade 1 cancer cells, theycan be romoved with no worry. If you leave this, it could turn into an aggressive cancer, you may lose your womb, your chance of any kids, or your life.
Please go to the doctors.

You need a PAP smear annually, regardless of whether or not you have ever been pregnant, or are sexually active or not. Cervical cancer does not discriminate, it can strike any woman past puberty.
HPV viral infection increases your risk of cervial cancer, so use a condom everytime you have sex, regardless of whether or not you are on the pill. There are alot worse things you could catch (like HIV)

A pap smear will detect for cervial cancer. It is caused by a virus. Get going! A pap smear does not show for ovarian cancer.
