I live in the south, but I am thinking about moving up north. Do the people who live in the north wish they lived in the south because of the weather, or do you really like living up there?

I think it all depends on your personality and what makes you happy. I live in the south, im an hour from the beach, 3 hours from the mountains. I love it, and i will never leave. I visited a good portion of the north last year on vacation. My 3rd day in new york I cried until it was time to go home. I went in april, it was frikkin freezingl compared to home. I havnt seen snow in 15 years. They didnt have sweet tea, if fact when i asked for it they looked at me like i was insane, and as for southern hospitality. Im sorry, but in my home town, you accidentally lock eyes with a stranger on the street, and we say "hey how ya doin? fine. you? great. thanks." ha in every city north of the mason dixon, i said hi to people, and they either rolled their eyes or glared at me like i was up to something. ugh. awful. i left new york, it was 30 degrees and grey and sleeting, 12 hours later, i pulled in my driveway in a pair of shorts, a tank top and flip flops, drank a gallon of good ol sweet tea, rolled around the the green grass for a few minutes and then drove to walmart with the top down under the beautiful 78 degree blue skies and said hello to every frikkin person i saw, and they all smiled and said hello back. Yeah so in conclusion, if you are a city girl trapped in a country girls home, by god pack it up and fly. But as for me you couldnt pay me to live up there.

Well I live in the Hudson Valley mid way between NYC and Albany. I love the area I live in, within two hours drive is the middle of nowhere in the Catskill Mts, or downtown Manhattan, the center of the known universe. I have never wished to live in the south, because of the weather. Here in NY we have four very distinct seasons, the fall peak was just a week or two ago, and winter is coming. Once you are used to the cold in winter, it isn't that big of a deal. There are usually only a few days a year where it gets to be bitter cold each year. After a cold snap, 35 degrees feels pretty warm.
It's all a very subjective thing, if you live in Fargo, ND it's very different than the mid-Atlantic/New England area, they get the bitter cold for far longer than we do. Even here in NY you can go from Syracuse where it snows every night (lake effect) to the City where it doesn't snow too often. Just like ice cream flavors, how can you pick a "better" spot for somebody else?
The "best" place to live is the one that you love, not what some "yahoo" says is the best, or worst. If you were to move to a northern state, look into all the details first. South Jersey might be in the north, but there is less snow than you might think, where as Burlington Vermont has snow cover for most of the winter.

By the way, the guy who made the "liberals" comment, must hate America. As far as I can tell, people in the Northeast are from all kinds of political, social, religious, and ethnic backgrounds, New York is a true melting pot. It is the essence of America, a true convergence of multi-culturalism. If you think that everybody should follow blindly one political agenda, you must hate to live anywhere. If the North were all liberal, how did NY have a Republican Govoner, or PA a Republican Senator? What about Rupublican controlled RI, and many more examples. You must really not live in the North, to have such generalizations. I don't often bump into a stranger on the street and discuss politics, usually it's the weather, or sports. Unless having winning teams and four seasons is liberal, I would say how would anybody know?

Well I was born in PA and now resign in SC. After being in the South for 10 years now, I have came to the conclusion that the North is definatly the place to be. Not only do you get to experience all 4 seasons instead of 2, the people up north are far more friendly then down here. They say Soutern Hospitality, BULL. I mean don't get me wrong, Charleston is a nice place to vacation to or maybe even live for a couple of years, But its always refreshing to have a white Christmas and a warm Fourth of July. The humid is non existant up north which really doesn't make the weather that awful.

Many people including myself do not like the North and dream of leaving. We dislike the bs big government liberal uptight way of life. We long for the laid back friendly vibe that the South offers. And soon I shall be a Southerener or a Southwesterner. Georgia, SC, or Texas baby!

I live in the north. I don't dream about living in the south. My boyfriend wanted me to move to florida with him but i said no. The nice weather would probably be awsome, but i like the beach as a vacation spot, not a place to live, it kinda just takes the excitement out of having seasons. There is always soo much to do around my area though too...im in decent driving distance of Philly, NY, NJ (Atlantic City), MD, Virginia Beach, Pocono's (Skiing/Snowboarding)....etc...its great!!!! There's no place i'd rather be!

The south lives in the past... civil war, discrimination, religion... all things that tear at people and keep them seperated... the north is where it's at... hard working people... live and let live
