Back in the day, running a vaccuum while watching tv would mess with your reception. If you were receiving tv through aerial antennas. Today with cable and satellite, this is no longer an issue. Vaccuum motors and all electric motors create a magnetic field which can distort reception, but no damage done. FCC has rules controlling stuff like this. You'll do more damage to a tv by placing stereo speakers near it. Magnets are a tv's enemy, as the tube in a tv is coated with magnetic material.
