Personally Deschamps said nothing wrong in that article. He never said he did not want Buffon to win, he hoped he would, but did not think he would. He also pointed out that its not the WC performance alone( which people forget) that decides the award but their entire seasons effort. I would not class his comments as negative toward Buffon or Italy.
As learnt from Maradona Jnr, Platini was talking about a completely different award to the FIFA player of the year in Dec. I wasn't aware Papin had made a statement.
Not everyone despises or resents the Italian team just because they point out they too have some faults or whatever. I think a lot of comments are being misinterpreted.
