i am in year 11 at school. i want to become a graphic designer. i know i need to get a diploma to get anywhere in that business. but i don't know how to make my way towards a diploma. i also have not taken a GCSE in art wich will narrow my chances on getting on to a art course at collage. if anyone has any ideas, actually is a graphic designer or knows an ideal course for me to take in the north east of england i would love to hear from you.

hi guy's thankyou for all your help, dose anyone think it would be a good idea to maybe take an art GCSE at collage then go into a A-level it would take an extra year. not sure if it's worth taking a little extra time and doin stuff properly.

If you're talented and keen, lack of Art GCSE may not be "that" much of a hindrance. To get onto a course you will need to have a great portfolio though.

Probably most people who do it go the GCSE, A Level, Foundation Course, Degree route. That's what I did.

Or GCSE, NVQ type stuff to a certain level and you can get onto a degree that way.

Saying that, I know a couple of very good graphic designers who never studied it at all, just worked at a printers and got into it that way. They're the exception though.

If you have not taken art in school you will need to do a art and design course at collage probably GNVQ level then after a year of that you will have the portfolio to get into a graphics design course. Obviuosly go into futher education (poor you) in university (sorry dont know the course in uni)

I suggest you to join this website. Join the section of graphic designers and point that you are amateur. this wage is very popular so you may be noticed by needed people :)
