A legal secrertary does the filing, typing, phones, and sometimes acounts payable & recievable. A paralegal does legal research, drafts legal documents, prepares trial notebooks, and interviewing clients. However, if they work for a title company the search tiltes at the court house, prepare deeds and other documents, and conduct real estate closing (depending on the state). The way you are treated depends on the lawyer you work for. Some will let you go and do your thing, but the legal secretary usaully reports to you (depending on the set up at that office). If you like to research things it is a good field to get into. Depending on your state starting pay is about $31,000 with a certificate and $33,000 for a two year degree and higher for a four year degree.

I would start with a certificate and see if you like it. I have a certificate and worked for an attorney, but I chose to go into HR and my certifciate helps me in my day to day life as well as my career.
