I/O=Input/Output so there is some sort of hardware/ software clash between your DVD and laptop.. or it might be that the cable connecting the 2 is faulty

If you have not used DVDs on your laptop before, or you dont have a special program to run it (you usually have to pay for these) you will not be able to use "Movie" dvds on your laptop, even though you have a DVD drive. Personaly burned DVDs you can use, like pictures and video clips and what not you have burned to a Dvd you can use with it, that should work.
If not, your computer may not be reconizing the DVD player. You may just have to restart your comptuer, and wait until everything is all loaded on your computer, then try.
If that doesn't work you may have to uninstall your dvd player driver, then re-install it, which is a pain, and i can't help you there.
Also a little tidbit, "I/O" stands for input output.
Hope this helps!

Either the DVD platter is bad or your DVD is bad.
It also might give this message if there is no DVD and you force it.

Try another disc first.
The drives themselves don't fail often.
