Is the Universe really Expanding or are we really observing disintegration?

Does the 2nd law of thermodynamics explain disntegration?
So as energy dissipates where does it go,does it expand into outer nothing?

From where I sit, it comes to the same thing. If the universe is expanding - and entropy is increasing - then the end can only be dis-integration.
