Recently Malcom speed commented on Indian cricket team performance. he stated that India did not win a major event after 198x..........My question is - Is it 1983 or 1987 - according to Speed. The Hindu paper say it is 1987. But I doubt it to be 1983. - Please answer.

Here's the exact quote of Speed:

The criteria for judging organisations is how their team has performed, how well they look after their stakeholders and how many good cricketers they produce. I am not trying to be critical of India, but the last time they have won a major title was in 1983.

It was a typo by The Hindu.

It is 1983. The major event, the World Cup, was won by India in 1987.

In 1987, India could reach only upto semi final. They lost the Semi final against England by 35 runs.
