i can't be asked to count how many of whatever it is if there are four billion. i would like to see some of my life before i die. However, i can touch the paint, and I would check the 4 billion, if i could be bothered. If you told me the paint was wet on the bench on the other side of the world (or even down the street, probably) i wouldn't bother checking.

You can touch the paint. The billions are out of reach so your word has to be taken. Four billion what ? by the way.

probably because they don't know when the wet paint sign went up and that it could have dried
