I am not asking if I make good money for the particular job I do. Im asking for a 37 yr old living in a major city, single with no kids, do you think just under $50K is a good salary. Simply put, is making just under $50K at 37 laughable or is it ok ? And for all the rocket scientists, what doctor makes only $50K ?

I answered this question before and I'll elaborate on it since you added to your details. I think that $50,000 is too little for living in a large city, especially if you are living in the downtown area. You still have to pay taxes and you are probably spending most of your money on rent and your daily necessities. I think you need to find a sugar daddy. I can be one in 5 years after I'm done with med. school.

If your living in a major city and if I read this correct you are a Dr. This salary is a smack in the face. I work for a Financial Advising firm in a average size city and we have some people in our office who make 50K a year. We had one analyst who left to move to Texas to start a job out there at 70K so I would say 50K in an average city would be good but in a major city, I would think that is just not acceptable.

That is more then the average American makes. Why dont you ask yourself this question? Does this money make you happy? Do you struggle with finances? Can you afford the things you want and need?

If you live in a major city then you know what the poverty is like in this country. Why dont you go ask the homeless guy on the corner if your salary is good.

sounds great to me, i live in a small city, single mom with 2 kids, work 2 jobs and struggle to make $20. And that is with an education. I am also 34. If you are making just under $50, i would consider it good at any age

Its good enough if it covers all your bills and still have some left over for fun.
I find it a little sad that in this day and age, $50,000 a yr is a questionable amount of money. I dont mean to belittle your question. What I mean is, most Americans simply dont make this amount and economically speaking, its not all that much (although its a hell of a lot to me).
So long as your happy, thats all that matters.

I dont think that is terrible at all. How much you make always depends on your job of course. I know people at 37 that have not even graduated high school or still work junkie fast food places or gas stations. It sounds to me that you are doing good for yourself. Plus you are single and dont have a family to support. I wouldnt worry.

It depends on your life style. Some people will choose a satisfying job over making a lot of money. For example, if you prefer teaching to being a business exec. you will be satisfied with your salary and live your life accordingly.
