They have never had enough troops. There is not enough troops. All the troops in the world will not save a 'no strategy'. US commanders know this but they are not going to speak out against the commander-in-chief. Rumsfeld has had an agenda from taking office that the goal is to have a more mobile force that relies on technology. Sounds like a great theory but real people are still needed. No one surrenders to technology.

I don't think that's what they meant, I think what they meant was they have sufficient troops on the ground to do the job. Even changing the tone of voice when saying "can make do" can change the meaning. A master chef can often make do with only certain ingredients, but he still can produce a masterpiece of a meal, or get the job done in an amazing fashion. There's too much negativity in the world.

... I wonder what generals he is talking to... saw three retired generals on tv last night.. and each and every one of them called for the removal of Rumsfeld, fist of all... secondly they all agreed it is a war that will not be won.. and thirdly they said that if Bush had really intended to win this war he would have went in with more troops.. those there are just sitting ducks and are slowly being killed off... right now they serve no real purpose. These are all generals who have served there and who could not express their true thoughts until they retired... so i imagine any there now cannot either. Lets face it.. Bush blew this! He is letting people die daily only because he is stubborn... he thinks it is his war.. and he can just do as he pleases... doesn't matter how many die..... and then he has the nerve to say Kerry doesn not respect our enlisted people... letting them die shows little respect either.. to my way of thinking!

It was the principal error of Viet Nam that we went in with too little and too few. They are having bake sales for body armor for our men and women in Iraq. My gosh, shouldn't that tell you something? How to you get the stones to send people into war without the best equipment available, and then have bake sales to pay for what should be given to them? Bush has said that Rumsfield and Cheney will stay throughout his presidency and it makes you wonder why mediocrity is so worshiped in this administration.

Can you imagine what would happen if they admit that they need more a week before elections?
Of course Bush said that!
Like the price of gas went down weeks before elections...

I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE HOLDING BACK?
MY DAD ALWAYS SAID, DONT DO IT HALF ASSED.
WELL, I'M AN HALF ASSED EXPERT AT THAT.
IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE.
AND THAT'S WHAT I SEE.
WHY ARE THEY ALL SO HALF ASSED?
GET OUR BOYS "ALL AND EVERY RESOURCE AND
TOOLS" AND GET IT DONE.
IT'S NOT THE ENTIRE COUNTRY HAVING FITS.
JUST SEVERAL PROVINCES.
MY GOSH, IT JUST DOESNT TAKE THIS LONG TO GET
THE JOB DONE. AS I HAVE LEARNED IN BUSINESS,
MILK IT MILK IT MILK IT. NOT THIS POCKET BOOK!
THEY WILL BE VOTED OUT OF CONTROL THIS TIME.
IN THE SAME THEME AS JOHNN KERRY SAYS:
THEY MAKE THE POLISH LOOK SMART.
AND THEY KICKED OUT THE RUSSIANS.
