Because the GMAT is a computer adaptive test, the best way to prepare for it is through a computer-based program. If you cannot afford a classroom course, consider online courses - you'll get lots and lots of questions for realistic practice, as well as practice tests and strategies for improving your scores.

I think that any library will have GMAT review books. Try that first. They may even come with a cd at the back. Any GMAT review book you can get your hands on, just practice practice practice. You may even find free online questions.

The study guides are excellent if you are self-disciplined. Get yourself one from Princeton Review or Kaplan. Do it cover to cover and following their guidelines. It will tell you to take timed tests. The have quite a few full-length tests. It will have answers, and review the errors with you. If you do all of that, and take the test (timed) again, and again, and still do badly on a section or two, that will identify for you specific weakness areas. You might then have to invest in three or four private tutoring sessions for those areas. It really pays off. We saw amazing results for our son. But following the book and instructions in there, and practicing, may be enough for you. Good Luck!
