Of course he meant what he said...he lacks intelligence, he lacks diplomacy and he lacks respect on many levels.
He just turned his own party against him now too - though half of them already were...he's an idiot.

Both! The banner response from troops in Iraq tells me it's not just Republicans here in the states that didn't get Kerry's joke. Maybe Kerry needs to work with Al Franken to learn how to get the punch line right. Or maybe he just needs to tell everyone ahead of time this is a joke. Or it could be Kerry is the real joke.
He screwed up. And in typical Kerry fashion refused intitally to even admit he screwed up. Once he realized he'd screwed up initially refused to apologize. The FINALLY when he was convinced by others that an apology was required grudgingly gave on.
I think it was a Freudian slip myself.

Maybe a little of both. Kerry is a strong supporter of the military... and, no the democrats don't hate the military. Did you know that Bush has proposed a 2.2% pay increase for the military!!! Jeez, what will they do with all that extra money? I believe what Kerry meant to say was that the elite manage to stay away from war (military service) and that many of the poor end up joining the military because they offer educational benefits. Think about it - GW didn't go to Viet Nam - Kerry did - more than once. I think we all need to get over his remarks and move on.

I love how people on here claim Dems hate the military while Kerry is a decorated war veteran, regarless of whether you like what he said or not. Also, are you so crazy that you think the only people serving in our military are Republicans? Of course not. My family is all liberal Democrats, and every single person in my family has served in the military. Next time you make a remark, stick to the facts-it might get you somewhere.
I don't care if he meant it or not. The truth is, the military does have a difficult time recruiting people of high academic and professional achievement, and he was rightfully referring to the President's getting us stuck in Iraq, while trying to make a clumsy jab at the President. The only thing I regret about his comment is that the wording wasn't better. This president has us stuck in Iraq, and we will be there for decades at least due to his rush to aggression not being tempered by any view of reality.

Both......I think it gives a picture of just how out of touch he is with the majority of people in the US. He is an Elitist who tries to cover up the fact that he cares about no one other than John Kerry's ego. I am not surprised that Theresa Heinz removed the "Kerry" from her name after the 2004 election.

I guess all new statements such as George Sr.'s remark about no new taxes can in the future be written off by " it was a botched joke". When Bill said "I had no sexual relations with that woman" he was probably just joking. People, we must all be held accountable for hurtful remarks.

He meant exactly what he said. If he didn't he would have apologized immediately. Wouldn't you if you accidentally insulted someone - especially if it was someone risking their life for your freedom?
It took him two days to apologize because he couldn't figure out how to spin what he claims he meant to say. If the joke had been written as reported, then why wasn't it released immediately?

No, a big mistake would have been had he gotten elected.
Kerry is a has been joke. He might be able to keep his senate seat in liberal Massachusetts, but he will never hold a higher political office.
