Here are the two extremes. Most sites fall anywhere in between:

New website with no or few external links and is not updated frequently: 6-12 months. (Sometimes less but usually only main page, rarely shows up for any results pages.)

Popular site with lots of links and has been around for years and is updated on a regular bases: Indexed Everyday or several times a day (news sites).

Tip: Try getting as many links as possible. Even start dropping a link to your site on Yahoo answers will help (when appropriate, no spam please).

It can take from 3 to 6 months to get included in the index but it also depends on a lot of different factors.

If you can, link your new website from another site already in the google index.

Make sure you have submitting the page to google.

Try creating a google site map, it may or may not help you get listed faster but it won't hurt.

2-3 days normally. A week on a bad week. When you are looking for your site in search results, are you searching for specific keywords or just the name of the site? If you are just searching for keywords, you may be indexed, but on page 1,323,478. If you have a google toolbar installed on your browser, look at the PR ranking section. If it is white and says PR 0, you are not banned. If it is greyed out, you are banned.

24 hours to 48 hours after it is submitted (and not published) .. one needs to submit their website to `google' via a form to allow the same to index the page.. use this link to submit your website's url:
