As a young teen, I worked as a missionary in Mexico. I could forever remember the smell of the plaster on the walls of my room, and the smell of the smoke-filled foggy mornings. I remember the children and the dirt and the imprint it made on my soul. It changed me forever and made me so thankful to live in the US and have so much!
30 years later, I returned to the same orphanage. Wonderful to see so much progress... electricity, water, clean and healthy children. I yearned to smell that smoke (which was actually trash fires) mixed with the morning fog...but it didn't happen. The wet plaster smell of the buildings was gone as well. It all came back to me when I started loving on the children...the smell of kids! Like tortillas and dirt! How I love the tight grip of the children pulling me in each direction to come and play! In the distance, the pungent aroma of tripe being cooked, and the sound of barking dogs and roosters crowing. It's like I had been there forever.
I'll be going back again this month. So wonderful to create new memories and build on the old ones!

Ensinada, Mexico. A beautiful town a few hours south of Tijuana. I remember hiking down a mountain in my flip flops, just so that I could get near the water. I felt so free at that time, far away from all of my problems, with the person that I loved, and some other people that I came to really like. I remember it so well because my husband and I took this trip after we got married. It was kind of a honeymoon, but not really, because we took two of his friends. It was also my birthday. I will never forget that experience for as long as I live. I can't wait to go back there either.

The most memorable place I have been was Pisa, Italy. I loved Italy overall, but Pisa just had such a rich historical feeling. The main historical part of town is still surrounded by a thick wall that takes you back to medievel times. And then, the Leaning Tower is fabulous. If viewed at sunset, it just takes your breath away. And you think that it couldnt get any better until you see the view from the top of the tour and realize how amazing this world actually is.

New Orleans - French Quarter
The history and beauty of the Quarter are magical. I loved the people and the atmosphere. It was a very memorable place for me. I went there in 2002 by myself for three days (not around Mardi Gras). I explored and wandered around. Because I was alone I was able to talk to people more genuinely and they in turn would talk to me because I wasn't hanging out with the tourists. I really fell in love with the place.
Alaska - Kenai Peninsula - Homer
The scenery is breathtaking, the hiking and kayaking was exhilarating and staying in the B&Bs you get to know the people. Those nine days had such a profound effect on me that I actually teared up as I got on the plane to leave for home. I went there to see my family (brother and his sons). It was my nephew's wedding but we, my fiance and I, stayed longer because of the scenery and activities.
I highly recommend going to both places.

Colorado, it was beautiful, I felt small...I remember this because I am not fortunate enough to wake up and see the mountains everyday! I was just passing through, drove from east coast to west coast
