I went there about 4 years ago for a Spanish class I was taking.
I stayed in Sosua..near Puerto Plata in a little German-couple-owned hotel by the ocean. The hotel was alright...very cozy and tropical.
My class enjoyed doing so many things while in DR. We loved going to this one club where we had to take moto's to get there. You guys really know how to dance!! I loved being swept around the dance floor.
I loved the easy going nature of the people...so nice, cordial, warm and friendly.
I remember when I came back home from my 1 week trip...back in Canada...and I honestly had a mini week-long depression, because it was so hard to leave paradise.
I remember having fresh pineapple, and it was the most delicious fruit I had ever tasted in my life. They just don't taste the same way here.
I remember our group commissioning a van to drive us to Playa Grande, maybe 1-2 hours away from Sosua, and it was GORGEOUS. I mean, it was the idealic white beach-palm tree, dream that you always envision. I just layed there on the lounge chair, looking out at the sea, with the green palm trees swaying in the breeze, and I just had to stop and breath it all in... capture that moment forever.
Anyways, all this reminiscing is making me want to go back, so I think I'll leave it at that. :)

Gladly, except like waterripple I'll probably be online booking a trip when I'm done!
I have a cousin who owns a stable in Puerto Plata, so I used to go visit her. I've also stayed in Sosua and Punta Cana. The weather and beaches are the best!!
And that would have been my answer until I discovered Boca Chica.
The water and beach is amazing because of course, unlike the others its not on the ocean but on the Carib sea, and then it has the reef as well, which keeps the water very clean.
I've been going there now twice a year for 4 years. And now make my cousin visit me there instead. The people are amazing. I have made so many friends there.

I went there for the 1st time some months in the past and that i replaced into scared. My effect of the Dominican Republic is that all and sundry is the two a drug broker, prostitute, hustler, or organised criminal. the only people who're friendly are the persons attempting to tear-off you. My effect of the police tension are that they are the a number of maximum corrupt I relatively have ever considered. i might circulate so a methods as to assert that i think of the police there are criminals themselves. i replaced into afraid because of the fact i know that if ever I relatively have a difficulty with somebody and the police are called the police are going to tell me to pay them money with the intention to no longer circulate to penitentiary. additionally my lodge room replaced into robbed by skill of the lodge artwork tension and there replaced into no longer something i ought to do approximately it. i ended up shifting to a different lodge yet i did no longer sense any extra desirable with regard to the staff there the two. extra desirable to trip interior the u . s . in my opinion regardless of if it expenses somewhat extra money.

went to punta cana twice in a years time. had wonderful time both times. the people are wonderful. the food is great. and my daughter is a very picky eater and found lots to eat. went in January did not care for the weather as much as i did in march. we had both white and brown sand and enjoyed the beach at the resorts. the outback safari is great! you get to see the country and see how the people live. if you want to buy something barging with them to get the best price. went to San Domingo enjoyed it but not enough shopping time. went snorkeling, atv, para sailing enjoyed it all. at night we found a quite bar and relaxed before going to bed. can not wait to go back planning our next vacation there in the spring time. have fun

Great place to vacation, but a lot of Ladrones should you want to do business. Foreigners are worse than Dominicans over there.

I have just been to DR in October, Punta Cana. Beach is one of the best, and I have been to a lot of beaches. As a matter of fact, I just got certified as scuba diver in DR.

ha are you serius? i live here too!! what other people said about th beach... la romana and puerto plata are really the worse places to go!! you have to go to Punta Cana, Samana or sosua. cabarete is good for water sports (so is samana) and night life.

I went to Punta Cana which is probably not very indicative of the island. It was beautiful. The people weren't very friendly in the usual island-way.
