I dont know about a name (if I gave you one youd probably hate it anyways) But to get started Just start jamming together. I assume you are the songwriter, so play any songs you have written for the other band members and see what they think. Listen to critisims and use it constructivly. Play cover songs that all of you know and most importantly just play together as much as possible. I know naming a band is fun in the beginning and you want to do it even before you've played together, but don't worry about a name. It will be a few months before you start playing gigs so you have a little while to think it over. By the way there are TONS of keyboards in metal.

Ok man if you wanna start a metal band...drop the idea of keyboards right now. if you really really want keys in your band, work your way up to a record deal, show everyone you have talent and then you will be allowed to experiment with it. otherwise drop it.
As for names I won't tell you any of the good ones because I may want them for my own metal band, but when we choose a name I'll tell you the names we reject.
As for getting started, get together and learn some songs (start with covers they're easier) then when you guys are really good at playing as a group, start playing some originals, when you have a few originals down, look for gigs at parties, bars, under bridges, or anywhere else you can play, get some recognition from the public, then to make sure you're noticed you could always record your originals as a demo record and send it to producers.

There are no good names. They're all taken. =) Seriously, there's a band name registry website where you can check to see if the name you like is already taken. So check the ones you like before you get too attached to them.
To get started, I would play covers you all like as a group. That helps you learn to play as a team. After you've got 20 covers down really well, THEN you start playing your own together.
Don't get me wrong, it's fine to just start writing stuff together, too. Whatever feels right and works. But learning about the team is a big deal in knowing how to write, too. Make sure you don't get too protective of your songs! Sometimes you have to stick with your guns, because you're right, but you have to choose those battles, and listen to everyone all the time. Big Country, the Scottish band, said that they were a reverse minority: if one person didn't like it, they didn't do it.
There are plenty of ways to make a career with covers. Bands who got their first big break into the public eye with a cover only include Van Halen and Hall & Oates (yeah, they're not popular now, but they're still laughing all the way to the bank, right baby?)
Also, there ARE keyboards in metal. Rainbow in the Dark by Dio, anyone? Besides... you do what YOU want, as a group. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. That's a quick way to sound like everyone else and not get the extra attention you need if you're going to get big. If you want keyboards, use em. If you want balalaikas... well.. don't, because System of a Down probably already did it, but you get the point! ;-) Good luck!

#1, no keyboards in metal. period.
#2 name has to come from personal experience, not just random strangers.
#3 to get started, practice alot and write alot. You will not make a career playing covers. Play at birthday parties, school dances, etc, all for free, get your name out there. Find other local bands to do free teen concerts with. Eventually you can start doing club shows, bear in mind that at least one member must be over 21 to be a guardian for the younger ones at club shows, otherwise someones mom will have to be a chaperon.

Good names:
Doctor Sin
Fallen Angel
Revenger
Shadow of Death
Widowmaker
How to get started:
Start playing/practicing at least 3 days a week until you have a 1 hr. set of tunes down, then play everywhere you can, school, parties, etc. put up lots of flyers. Play other schools, preferably right before party gigs, you can advertise the party from the school gigs. Get your name known-make your band stand out from others. Don't play live until you are tight and polished. Good Luck!

Vinster you sound like you have the same household as we do. My husband has been doing cover music also and he gets a ton of gigs. Drop the keyboards. Like everyone else has mentioned there are no keyboards in metal.

1. Unfinished Business
2. Start to practice and get down some songs. Try to put your name out there by playing at parties, small clubs, anywhere you can. Make sure you guys practice though and write about personal experiences.
