Most mechanical engineers in Russia do not work as mechanical engineers; there was such an overproduction at some point that there used to be jokes of mechanical engineers sweeping the streets. There is considerable variation by type of employer and location. The only question is if you speak really fluent (dont mean school stuff) English and Russian and some knowledge of business administration. 500.000 a year is a good guess, i would hire you any day. If not 10.000 max. All Americans excluded they are not even fluent in English.

If you live in Moscow, then it could be anywhere from $40,000 to $150,000
If you live in St. Petersburg, it is about $30,000 to $100,000
Any other city you will be lucky to get $30,000 - $50,000, but mostly around $20,000
