I was taking the pill for not so long, 3 months to be exact, but I was getting some bad side effects from them, so I stopped. My boyfriend and I decided to use other contraceptives to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. My question is this, is it normal to get heavy bleeding during your period. I'm very regular with my period, and usually do not menstruate heavily. I got my period yesterday, and I have been bleeding a lot, and its a weird color. I just want to know if someone has had this happen to them, or it's only me.

depending on the colour and if you are experiencing any discomfort, you should be ok.

understand that the pill does play with your system a lot. you are ingesting large amouts of hormone everytime you consume such pill (including 'the morning after pill') and this will inevitably change a few things.

The flow, colour and regulation of your period can vary considerably but not so considerably it scares you ( if that happens consult ur practitioner).

Coming off the pill will change the way your cycle was, dpending on the woman this can be forever of maybe just a few cycles. so calm down

Remember to always get yourself and your partner checked at the clinic for any possible disease.

If you experince pain and heavy bleeding it could present itself as PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) which is very serious and can cause infertility so be careful

Getting off the pill will cause your body to have to adjust itself. Your period should return to normal after a few times. It's not uncommon. When I got off the pill mine became very heavy the first few times. I would ask a doctor about the color though. Just to be on the safe side.

What color is it? Sometimes being on the pill can regulate your period, and coming off of any birth control can really screw up your hormones and cause you to have lighter or heavier periods. I just came off of the birth control shot in May, and I barely have a period, and my cycles last anywhere from 40-60 days. If you're not sure, you could call your local "planned parenthood" and ask them, or you could call a doctor.

Well, I think it's because you were using birth control pills for 3 months. Birth control pills limit the extent to which you menstruate and not that you are no longer on the pill, you are bleeding more heavily than you were on the pill.

birth control pills regulate your hormones and your flow, give it a couple months for your body to get back to normal.

your body is probably just adjusting itself from coming off the pill, but you should go see your GP just in case..... all the best
