I have a couple of stamps that I can't seem to identify. They look exactly like the first two US stamps shown in the Scott catalogue. A five cent Benjamin Franklin and a ten cent (in roman numeral) George Washington. But, the colors are not the same? The book says that the Franklin is red brown in color and mine is blue. And the Washington in the book is black and mine is a burnt orange in color??? Are these fakes or what?

They are not fakes - they are reproductions issued in 1947 for the 100th anniversary of the first U.S. postage stamps. They were issued on a mini-sheet with one of each value, and their Scott numbers are 948a (Franklin) and 948b (Washington). They were issued in different colors to prevent their being sold as original 1847 stamps.
