Who on this Yahoo Answers thing actually didn't go to College or University? And still got a great paying job?

I'm @ work right now and I got people telling me how important college and UNI is....IF it is so great then why do half of the ones who do attend work for McD*cks or any fast food place, why aren't they working in some high powerful job? My parents well my mother has her own company(own boss) and my father was a welder and both of them never went to college or UNI and they or my mother is doing great. So for the ones who did go why are they so miserable and work at dead end jobs? My older sister is the ONLY ONE who made it to college in my family and we all have great high IQ's?? Tell me that one guys really need to know this.

I am glad to hear that you and everyone in your family have "great high IQs". I am wondering why you did not use your great high IQ to learn how to write better and communicate better.

You have finished high school and are working someplace. You have a College fund. Where did you get the fund? How large is it? Why must you wait two years to buy a townhouse. With your great high IQ, you should be able to buy one immediately and give your college fund to someone who can use it.

It is true that some people (for example Bill Gates) never finished college and have been highly successful, but this is the exception rather than the rule. Your great high IQ only measures your ability to learn and absorb information: it does not measure how smart you are or how much you know. This comes from studying in high school and colleges.

If you are satisfied to be a Welder that makes a fairly good wage, then do so. Waste you "great high IQ". You can never be a Doctor, or a Lawyer, or a College Professor, or a School Teacher, or a Computer Scientist, or a clergyman, or countless other professions that can allow you to make significant contributions to our society.

Set your goals a little higher than having a townhouse.

I find it interesting that in every post you have to tell people how smart you are and all about your amazing high IQ. Is someone a little insecure and feeling inferior?

I have an "off the charts" IQ, quite literally. It makes for some interesting conversation from time to time, but I don't need to go around telling people how smart I am. Then again, I can spell and construct a proper sentence so I don't really need to tell anyone how smart I am, it shows.

I went to college and now I have a job with a six figure income. I make great money and my job is very satisfying. I love my job, it suits my personality and satisfies the intellectual challenges I require from a vocation. The best part is I only have to work about six months out of the year!

My college education helped me tremendously.

There are MANY companies and many high-paying jobs out there that are simply NOT AVAILABLE to anyone who does not have a college degree. You will NOT get a job in upper management or any executive position with merely a high-school diploma. If you're going to start your own company, great. Good luck with that. If you expect to EVER get a high-paying job at any kind of company or firm with a good reputation in the business, you will usually be OUT OF LUCK without a college degree.

Those are the business reasons to go to college. The OTHER reasons have to do with getting an amazing education in a VAST number of areas, meeting an amazing variety of intelligent people, expanding your horizons of knowledge and interacting with professors and fellow students who will change your life.
College is mostly about developing your knowledge of the world and increasing your awareness of possibilities beyond the day to day. The business/career aspect is gravy. If you have the funds to go to college and you rationalize your way out of it you'll be making a mistake you can NEVER take back and you'll end up regretting it later.

College and Uni r just keys for u to open up the door with ease. U can still make it in life if u r smart and never fear to grab any good opportunity that comes along. Has a plan or objective of what u want in life and go ahead and get it.

All of my friends went to college and I joined the Navy. Now they are all graduated and doing well. They all make 50-65K a year. I just got out of the Navy and got a job as a Human Machine Interface programmer (which I learned in the Navy) and I will make over 90K this years. But either way you look at it you need some type of college or technical training in order to make a good living in most cases.

If i had the chance to do it over again i would not change a thing.
