They are bowing to the rock (Kaaba) that Muhammad used as the symbol for founding his silly religion. The Kaaba is actually a nickle/iron meteorite that was the symbol of another silly religion until stolen by Muhammad. In a sand colored world, a nickle/iron meteorite would stand out like a virgin in Newark.
