Are you tired of the negative, name calling, judgemental politics of personal insult and issue avoidance? Are you interested in being part of the tiniest beginnings of change? I know I am. I am a liberal who is willing to pledge to avoid name calling, judgement and personal attacks, and begin seriously discussing issues with anyone interested. Join me in this pledge. It's a small beginning but een if it only impacts a handful of people here on Answers it will be a good start. If leaders (of all party's) will not lead we must step in front and lead them.
Lincoln's words still hold true today, "A nation divided against itself cannot stand". Let's begin the stand as citizens against divisiveness.
If you are interested in beginning true reasoned discourse email me, contact me on 360 or answer here.

dukalink: I too sometimes feel that one person can not possibly make a difference. Then I remeber when we get enough ones we have a group. Get enough groups and you have a movement.

Bottles: I am not at all surprised that there are conservatives that want true political discourse. There are good people on all sides that do not blindly follow a party line. We have got to talk though, not judge each others ideas as wrong out of hand.

Invectives, diatribes and ranting screeds do nothing to help any of us.
The issues are what is important. The direction this country goes in is important. How we get along with each other is important.
But I must ask the question. "What can I, as one person, do to stop the madness?"

Yes. however there's one small problem with your idea. The terrorists have been rejoicing for weeks, after seeing that the liberal Democrats will likely win in the mid-terms. That should also make you re-think your liberal position. If that doesn't ALARM you, then we have nothing to start with.
Your idea is noble. You may be surprised to know that many conservatives would like to do the same. However, the big DIVISION starts with REALITY. Ya see, we conservatives are nice people too. We want good things also. But there is a huge and growing number of hate-filled terrorists that hate you, just as much as they hate us. REALITY DICTATES WHAT MUST BE DONE. Not FANCIFUL NOTIONS. BUT DESTROYING THOSE WHO WISH TO KILL US.
I think it was Nikita Krushev who said... .. The U.S. is far too strong militarily, to bring it down using military means. The only way to destroy the U.S., is from division within. That's not a direct quote, but it does contain the rationale of the Communist Leader.
So if it's Understanding that you want. . . .Then please begin to understand that.

The unfortunate truth is, as long as there are shadows, the powerful will use them to disguise their true intentions while making outrageous and impossible claims to wisdom they cannot possibly live up to. The same childish games we find in preschool are being played out in the political realm of dog-eat-dog.... They'll paint the story any way you'll believe it. How can anyone see through the slander and know just what a proposition actually proposes, in the long run, where consequences bring hind-sight all too late... Then our children reap the whirlwind of our folly.

Conservative. The huge, vast majority of this u . s . a . is classic, Judeo-Christian, and conservative. if you're speaking about inhabitants the rustic is chop up very gently, in spite of the indisputable fact that the liberal parts have a tendency to be targeted in inhabitants centers. click on the hyperlink I revealed decrease than and that is going to teach you a county by technique of county map of election outcomes for the 2004 Presidential election, a race that became very, very polarized. you'll see that very few counties are blue (Democratic) while lots of the map is pink (Republican). The blue counties, in spite of the indisputable fact that, are centred on San Fransisco, la, lengthy island, Chicago, Boston and so on and so on. those parts represent a small area of the rustic yet they contain about 1/2 of the inhabitants. because of this we've an electoral college - To offset the disparity between city and rural voters and small states and massive states.

I am fed up with the name calling....the delight in discovering mistakes by the "other" side...the endless search for errors from others. I am fed up with journalists who always side with one party and when the party of their choice makes mistakes they come up with excuses for it rather than acknowledging it.
I am tired of all the distractions caused by this. We can't discuss the real issues because of this childishness. Who cares how much Michael J. Fox knows about a particular bill or if he took his medicine? Let's talk about stem cell research.

Abraham Lincoln also worked as a lawyer. In one case, he made fun of someone on the witness stand, a man named John Cass, and called him Jack (for John), Cass, Jack Cass...
But I agree, too much mudslinging.

The reason we get name calling is because there is a lack of evidence or proof or guilt has been brought forth.
