I'm a healthcare professional here in Texas (clerical/billing), NO pregnancy is the only thing that is NOT considered pre-existing in Texas. All pre-existing conditions are covered by new insurance as long as there is no time (less than 30 days) that you go without insurance. Hang in there! You will still have coverage.

Group insurance plans (like the one you or your partner may get through work) are forbidden by law to consider pregnancy as a pre-existing condition, if they already provide maternity coverage. However, some insurance plans have a waiting period before coverage takes effect... anywhere between a month to three months.

If you are purchasing individual insurance coverage, it depends on the provider. Unfortunately it is very difficult to buy new individual insurance if you are on your own while pregnant, because they know you are going to cost them a lot of money in the very near term even for an uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery.

In the state of TX as long as you were covered for at least 6 months and did not have a lapse of 63 days or more in coverage than it doesn't matter. If you're just switching directly from one to the next, they have to cover whatever you had going on before as well as have what you've met as far as your deductible roll over to the new insurance. I just went through this same thing with my asthma, but I didn't have a lapse of 63 days so they have to cover all my treatments. The same applies to pregnancy in the state of TX. Our company is looking to switch insurance companies, and no matter what, the new one will have to cover my pregnancy. Good luck and hope this helps! If you need more information I've been here, just email me.

In terms of insurance? No. Pre-existing conditions are medical conditions/illnesses. Insurance covers pregnancy even if it occurs prior to acquisition of that insurance. You should be fine.

how far along are you? I know that when I first got married and was pregnant, the whole "pregnancy" thing increased our rates :( But it is a pre-existing condition to answer your quesitons. Insurance companies can figure out that it won't last more than 9 months. You have to report when the baby is born anyway.

If you are covered by one insurance company or the other throughout the duration of the pregnancy, without a lapse in coverage, then you will be covered. However, if there is a gap in between policies, you might find that the remainder of the pregnancy is not covered, but after the birth your child should be covered by the new policy, regardless.

I worked for Aenta in 1999 and a law was passed that as long as you have not had a lapse in coverage for more than 30 days and/or if you have an HMO, by law, it is not a pre-exisiting condition.

It is only a pre-existing condition if you are pg before you get the insurance!

They can't say oh you might get pg, you are the age to get pg, so we won't cover it!

If you get the insurance first and then get pg, they have to cover it.
