I can only speak for myself, but growing up in the 70' and 80's, the kids I knew, that had ex-hippy lib parents did seem to favor Volvo wagons.
There was a particular model, but I can't recall what it was.

Maybe for the same reason conservatives tend to drive Hummers and other gas-guzzling SUVs. Liberals want to exhibit their concern for the environments by driving safe, fuel-efficient vehicles. Conservatives want to exhibit their disdain for the environments by driving unsafe, fuel-wasting vehicles. That's the only reason I can come up with. -RKO-
