I'm 37 yrs old and make just under $50K and don’t really have a “career”, I have a job. I'm starting to worry about my future as I don’t see jumping my salary much higher than it is now. I would like to start down a new path that can become a career. For my age what direction would you recommend ? Something that wont take too long to learn/study and the payoff will be more than I currently make.

You should consider a bit more education. Either something like college or something in the technical realm. There are plenty of online and adult oriented universities (like university of phoenix) that cater to the working adult. Though the tuition may be high, it will definitely pay off in the long run. You could finish a degree in 2-4 years.
Or focus on certification in project management, computers, or a technical trade such as plumbing/hvac etc. They typically have a shorter less expensive training, and you may be able to start you own business afterwords.
