Depends on which "new version".
The one getting alot of play in commercials, the movie "50 first Dates" and an episode of ER is done by a Hawaiian named IZ (Israel) Kamakawiwo'le from his Facing Future cd . His is the version that has a ukelele/island sound. It's very cool.

It is actually Eva Cassidy. I have it on Virgin CD which is entitled SAD SONGS. Some other great music on it too! Worth buying (but not if you are depressed). My daughter called it 'suicide songs'!
