I've tried an internet search of local laws, but can't find anything specifically related burying someone outside of a cemetery.
I don't plan to bury anyone in my backyard. I trying to find out about the laws because a child was buried on private property, at a place called YFZ Ranch (actually a fundamentalist LDS compound) near Eldorado Texas, which is in Schleicher County. If you are curious, here's a link to part of the article: http://www.myeldorado.net/ (requires purchase - full article states that child was buried on YFZ compound earlier this week)

I hope they all do. What you are trying to bury someone in your backyard?

Mostly burials on private property are cremated first. But the reason isn't law -- although that's often an issue -- but devaluation of the property. Nobody wants to buy land with burials on it, and there are or may be laws that inhibit reburial without special licenses.

I'm sure this is a local ordinance type thing, controlled more at county or city level
