Here in the US, the President CANNOT make laws, only approve them. The President is part of the Executive Branch, the branch that enforces/executes the law. It's the Legislative Branch that makes the law, which consist of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Go to wikipedia.org and look up Federal government of the United States

A president cannot make laws, he signs bills into law.
Unless of course you are our current president. The law, or the constitution does not apply to him.

Make treaties -- sort of. He and his folks can write them up/negotiate, but I think congress has to ratify.

b. he can put an executive order into effect, but it only lasts for 30 days and then congress has to ratify it. this was put into action because if someone should say attack us, it would take too long for us to respond if we had to wait on congress.
