Awesome. You sound like you are actually in the market for GOOD music for Halloween... I have an album I listen to every year on Halloween, as its utterly perfect.
If you have access to music on the spot in some way, listen to The Black Heart Procession. Their masterwork is Amore Del Tropico, and is a murder mystery concept album. all good music, no filler. Also, their song from their album "II" (their first three albums were I, II, and III) 'It's a Crime I Never Told You About The Diamonds In Your Eyes" is so good it hurts. All their music is great for halloween because it all has this dark and brooding, almost obsessive quality to it that can't be explained, or compared to anyone. Its not gothy or cheesy at all.....
Best of all, they have a bizarre hang-up with the concept of the 'heart', hence the name of the band. Like half their songs are about or have in the title the word 'heart.' Examples: The Winter My Heart Froze, Your Heart is Red, Release My Heart..etc...
Best song to play for Halloween of all by The Black Heart Procession: "A Light So Dim"
And it just so happens I found a link for everyone here to listen to the first 30 seconds of this exact song, free and streaming from Kiss FM...
lastfm://play/tracks/2805999 and also
lastfm://play/tracks/2825579 (this is a preview of the song I mentioned called 'It's a Crime I Never Told You About The Diamonds In Your Eyes')
(or in the case those don't result as hyperlinks, try
http://www.last.fm/music/The+Black+Heart+Procession/Two
and scroll down to click on songs three and eight for previewing)
and while I'm at it:
And here you can view a video from their site to a song off Amore Del Tropico

This video will give a good idea of what these guys are about.
Seriously folks. This isn't about getting a best answer vote. This song/artist simply IS the Best Answer.

'Over At The Frankenstein Place' by Richard O' Brien, Susan Sarandon & Cast from 'Rocky Horror'.
My first choice was 'In The Air Tonight' though. The occasional Meat Loaf song would fit pretty well too. Have fun :-)
