I think if your weight loss is a result of doing moderate exercise and eating healthier foods in a good portion size, then you are probably okay. But if you are starving yourself, taking diet pills, working out really hard, or doing other unsafe things it probably isn't a good idea. A lot of women actually do lose weight in early pregnancy, because they want to do everything healthy for their baby when before pregnancy they were being unhealthy. Personally, although I always had good intentions, I was never able to exercise or eat super healthy in early pregnancy because of the morning sickness and tiredness. Good luck!

Hi - Yes, you can safely lose weight in the early months of pregnancy. It is important to know the rest of the story...no weight loss drugs or herbs are safe in pregnancy, so that isn't a healthy option. Sometimes ladies eat healthier as a result of finding they are pregnant - with that can come a healthy weight loss - especially if the woman is large to begin with. An increase in excercise can cause weight loss, just be sure you are staying hydrating and eating well. Your health care provider will have more information for you on this.
If you are concerned abosut weight loss in early pregnany because of the morning sickness that folks sometimes experience, that's another issue. Some weight loss in the first trimester is okay - it is a percentage thing, and a matter of how long and how severe it is. Once the nausea passes, many women regain their weight and continue on for a healthy pregnancy.
Hope this answers your question.

no, but that doesn't mean you have to eat everything under the sun either, pregnancy requires about 300 calories extra per day.
Discuss your weight concerns with your OB, and likely he/she will tell you that you should make healthy food choices and take a prenatal vitamin with 400mcg of folate, and also recommend a weight gain range for you.
Dieting or reducing calories/fat/nutrients means that not only will less be available to you, but less to your developing baby as well. Nutritional deficits in pregnancy are permanent (think spina bifida), so enjoy your pregnancy, eat healthy, and develop a weight loss plan for after you deliver. Congratulations and good luck!

I would say no. That is a critical time for the development of the baby. My sister lost weight when she was first pregnant (over 15 lbs) and was put in the hospital twice. She wasn't doing it on purpose, just was so sick and couldn't keep anything down. Might as well wait till after delivery to start a diet. You never know, you might be one of those people who end up being skinnier after the birth of a child than you were before.

My sister was very overweight when she got pregnant, and her obstetrician put her on a healthy diet where she lost weight at the beginning of her pregnancy. When she delivered her baby she weighed the same amount as when she first got pregnant, and then lost a lot right after delivery. Her doctor monitored her throughout the entire pregnancy, and her baby was a healthy weight. I don't think it is something you should try to do on your own, though.

No- Right now the baby needs all the nutrients it can get. Remeber this baby needs to grow, not loose weight. The only thing you can do is eat properly. Eat fruits and vegies and take your multi-vitimins! Materna is a good one! You could also do light walking and swimming to maintain a good weight. But if you over exercise you have a good chance of having a miscarriage if you are early on in your preg. So I would not adivise it!

Today I am 40weeks 3days pregnant and weigh and weigh 176lbs. I weighed 159 when i found out i was pregnant at around 3 1/2 weeks. I weighed 156 at 3 1/2 months meaning i lost 3 lbs in 3 months. I had never lost weight from my previous pregnancy and was determined not to get huge this pregnancy. I started taking walks everyday and drinking only water, apple juice, orange juice and milk. I started eating better, my only snacks were fruit, pretzles, and corn chex cereal. I ate more fruits and veggies. It mostly came off by itself. I told my doctor and he monitored it and said what weight i was losing was going to the baby. Also, I never weighed myself at home. I only weighed myself at my ob visits.

You can eat healthy and do moderate excersize. Its up to your body to decide if it wants to lose weight. Dont do anything to compromise your pregnancy, your body is already in a bit of stress because of it. Its better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

No you can not try to lose weight when you are pregnant. Sometimes you naturally do I lost 20 lbs when i was pregnant with my daughter and 30 when i was pregnant with my son. The only time in my life when i actually tried to gain weight.

Talk to your doctor first. I lost weight with each of my pregnancies. With my second child I weighed 4 pounds when I gave birth then when I got pregnant. I am also very overweight.
