1st.......defrag, this should be done weekly anyways..........run viris check, and if that don't work, go to your start menu and uncheck programs running in the background that you are not using. to go to start menu, you click on run.......then type in msconfig, then click on the tab that says startup, go thru the list and uncheck anything you dont need, this takes up system resources, slowing things down, unchecking them will not hurt anything, cause when you click on those programs, they will load back up. Also click on tools in the drop down menu, click internet options, and clean all of your temp internet files, cookies, history, this helps as well.......Good Luck

Your computer probably have been infected by some virus or there are some spyware running on your computer. You would need to find some spyware tools and antivirus tool to remove them. You can try downloading spybot to remove the spyware search for some free antivirus tools you can run for your computer. It may not remove everything thereby you may want to run a few other tools to catch most of them. Hopefully, this will speed up your computer. Good luck.

Download CrapCleaner ( CCleaner ) and use it weekly. After you use it, defragment the Hard Drive MONTHLY.
Install a Good Anti-virus program like AVG and let it do it's thing.
Install Spybot S&D. Install Ad-aware. What one misses, the other catches.
These are all FREE things you can do.

How much ram do you have, how much disk space do you have left. You can do what was suggested by defragging your hard drive, i also suggest cleaning out your cookies, temporary internet files and checking for spy ware.
