If Islam is a religion of peace, why is almost every criticism of it responded to with violence?

While most Muslims may be peaceful, Islam has never been a "religion of peace." Islam has been consistently spread by hideous violence and conquest for the last 1200 years.

Religions in general have limitations. All the religions uphold belief over logic. When that is too blind it goes to fundamentalism. If you think particularly Islam is not peaceful then you are also talking like a fundamentalist. The way a fundamentalist thinks, believes and acts, I think God hates those although any religion is meant for Him. Those muslims who respond with violence are ignorant of the whole picture. You know a lot of people who are putting down islam shoud look back how their religion was developed, jews first the first record of genocide is in their holy books, where are the hitites, moabite and the most sacrend place of all where are the jebusites who once ruled the area. I think you are referring to is fanatical islam which represents an undereducated (for the most part) faction of that religion.

With most of the middle East being controlled by religious monarchs (Theocracies) they, the radical Mullahs and Imams (sp?) are able to reach out to the poor under educated with propaganda that denounce Christians and Jews, claiming they want to eliminate Islam. This propaganda machine feeds on facts that spew untruths such as Israel being an illegal state which is historically untrue!

Don't blame all of Islam as there is a silent majority that is boiling under all the hate

Nor is Christianity.

Any religion, if carried far enough, results in bigotry and intolerance. The fundamental point of every religion is that it enshrines "absolute truth" which cannot be proved rationally, but must be accepted on "faith." The implication of this is that every other religion must be wrong, although again, there's no rational way of proving as much. Therefore force is the only means to "settle the question." This is really how ALL religions have spread and gained power. You think we're all "christian" in the West just because it's a good idea? You know how many cities we razed, how many people we burned at the stake, how many libraries we destroyed to get here?

The Muslim people I know, (which isn't many) are disgusted by the thuggish actions they see other Muslims committing.

In fact, they are the people that tell me that the danger of radical Islam is much worse than I can imagine.

i think its safe to say that the majority of terrorist are of islam faith. Although not all, well look @ the media, when was the last time they ever talked about an australian terrorist or an canadian/american terrorist planning an attack on the western way of life.
