I tried swapping in a different "good" monitor and get the same thing. This first happened when I tried to replace the original monitor with a newer one (both are CRTs). The resolution was WAY too large with the newer one so I rebooted but the monitor would not come on. I swapped back the old monitor and the monitor would not display at all.

We had what we thought was a dead monitor at the library I work at. Turned out that the vga connector into the CPU was loose. The tech jiggled the connection and the monitor came back on. Hope I explained it correctly.

i think you have a short. either that or a busted monitor. try putting the monitor with the odd resolution on and changing the settings. right click in windows and go to properties. go to settings. change the resolution to something you are more comfortable with.
thanks

Is this a onboard video card or seperate pci card? Either way it appears your video card may be failling. I would reccomend buying a new card and installing it should fix the problem.

The problem is with the graphics section of your motherboard, or your graphics card (if you are using one).. or it could even be a faulty port with a broken pin/ loose connection

Are you sure your computer is booting up to the operating system? Do you hear the hard drive crunching like it's doing anything?
