We fly home to Maryland on New Years day. My kids are 10 and 12 and I would like to find something interesting to do in Albuquerque, NM.

Scout out a high hill in or near Albuquesque where you can sit and look out over the city and see the stars. If weather permits, take along some mats or something to sit on outdoors. Take along some beverage you all enjoy (apple cider or grape juice or something) and go around the circle one by one and toast all the people you know and love. Say something you enjoy or appreciate about each person you toast. You can go around the circle of family members as many times as it takes to go through all the people you want to include. It's a nice way to finish up one year and to start another. I bet the kids would never forget their New Year's Eve on top of a hill in the Southwest under a clear sky (I hope), toasting their favorite people.

If the weather turns out to be too cold or rainy, then find a good indoor place to do the toasts. A beautifully decorated, family-friendly restaurant is a possibility.

Have fun and good luck!
