In addition to the other problems, the piercing is very near the primary nerve of the tongue, and if the person isn't VERY careful, you end up with a permanently paralyzed tongue...on the other hand, as a dental lab tech, we love people who put jewelry in their tongue as it invariably will cause vertical fracturing of the anterior teeth due to the fact that the tongue is constantly in motion even while asleep and the constant tapping against the teeth is very effective in destroying them. Provides us a constant revenue as people come in for crowns, extractions and partial dentures. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Don't believe all of the hype, people experience pain differently. It will hurt a little bit,but not so painful that you'll be screaming at the top of your lungs. Its mostly psychological. When your in the seat, just keep thinking, its not going to hurt.Trust e,it'll ease you up some. The whole process is only a few seconds long,it'll be over before you know it.Try to get a friend to go with you,so they can talk to you, while your getting it done, you won't even notice.People said the same thing about pregnancy and getting my blood taken, but i had a supporter(my mom) and both were over before i knew it.Just keep saying to yourself, this pain could be worst,ts not that bad,and trust me,it won't be.Good luck!

My tongue piercing hurt briefly when they first did it. It's over fast though. The worst part was that it swelled up for about 3 days so I couldn't really eat. I think it just depends on the person. My best friend's didn't swell at all. It's not so bad you can't stand it though.

Nope.
I had mine done 6 years ago. They inject your tongue then push a needle through. on the needle is a plastic straw that keeps the hole in place before they put your bar in place. After they've tightened both balls they tell you go back after the swelling to have a smaller bar fitted.
I got bored after 4 mnths and took it out.
If your having it done, eat ice lollies all day

Please do not do it! I read you can get an infection that causes heart failure from that. I am not kidding! Ask a doctor of the types of infections that can result from a tounge piercing! It is not worth the risk.

Think about what you are asking, and then imagine someone sticking a big needle through your tongue and remember the last time you accidentally bit your tongue.

Of course it does! Then you stand the chance of infection every time you eat until the sore heals.... which takes months!
